  • Cell Phone


    You know... in the past 7 years I've only had two cell phones.  I'm not into new flashy phones with cool features that take pictures.  I basically hold onto them until someone compels me to get a new one.  I got my current Samsung in 2001...prior to that I had a Startac.  Anyway, two reasons why I'm bringing this up. 


    1) My designer bought a Motorola Razr (which he needs to return now cuz he doesn't know how to use it) but it looks niceeee. 


    2)  My cell phone is acting all wacky.  After years of dropping it, its finally reached the end of its rope. 


    It was time anyway... I needed to get something that supports text messaging.  Yes, you heard right...I don't have text messaging. 


    So I never really had an issue with it until recently:


    Julie: Yo, I text msg'd you and you never responded.

    Kin: I don't have text messaging.

    Julie:  *blinks rapidly*  What did you say?

    Kin: I don't have text messaging.

    Julie:  *10 second blank stare*

    Kin: What? Hahhahahahhah.



    Elisa:  I sent you a text msg from BLVD!  How come you didn't come?!?!?!?  You're messed up.

    Kin: I don't have text messaging.

    Elisa: ......Oh



    EuNazi: Hey, I wanted to watch a movie last night how come you didn't call me back???

    Kinsen: Well, did you call me?

    Eunice: Yea, I text messaged you...

    Kinsen:  I don't have text messaging.

    Eunice:  ......you're wack.

    Hahahhahahahahahahaha.... apologies to anyone else who might have messaged me and didn't have me respond.  I didn't get it!  For real! 


    Anyone have recommendations on phones and service?

    in the city verizon is pretty good with service, and after 2 years they give you $100 bucks for a phone upgrade. 

  • i feel so behind on technology as well. my phone has no text messaging and no camera. the only good thing it does it: it rings.

    get verizon so we can talk all day long for free.  as for fones, i dont care, as long as it rings, u answer it-- ill be happy!

  • whatever phone you get get verizon.  trust me ... ive only had 2 phone too.  the og nokia one when i used to use cingular in cali and my samsung one tahts about 2 years old which is an eternity in phone years.  haha ....

  • i just recently learned to text message! i had the same phone as you for years and then 2 months ago it just .. konked out and they gave me a new one for $30 out of pity, i believe. i think you should go to verizon!

  • verizon is best in NYC, ATT is pretty good elsewhere.
    As for phones, get the Treo dude, voicemail, text, email, web surfing, IM, hell you can even post to xanga. hahaha

    i say go with verizon. ranked #1 in customer satisfaction and lowest complaints.
    cingular was last in satisfaction and tops in complaints

  • just get a phone that supports MP3s so this way you can have a theme music for every single person in your phone book

  • I like verizon.    My old startac, I was able to get text messages but I couldn't message people..and it never showed who it was from, so I'd get messages from people but had to guess who they were from!

  • hmm... now that you've got me thinking about it... i've also only had 2 cell phones in the past 7 or 8 years!!! wowww.... i'm ..... frugal!!

    at one point, i had to exchange my current motorola cuz there was an internal problem with the phone. but i've been using it ever since!! i want a new phone, but i cant find one i like....and i also dislike all the flashy new options -- camera, PDA, etc. tony's got the razor... and i dont really like the look that much. plus, it's got too many other functions. i just want a fone that can make calls!!

    i think we should all switch to verizon so when we call each other, it'll be free.

  • i like verizon...better signal in the us. i generally change my phone and # every year. i've had at&t/cingular, nextel, and now verizon. i think i'll stick w/verizon.

    diff phones have diff signal pickups. i was sitting next to a friend and she had full signal and i had none, both of us have verizon, but she had a diff phone.

    i'd also say that you should get the service that most of your friends have. that way it's all free to call.

  • Get the Treo man.. The phone rocks..who needs a comp when you can do everything w/ a smartphone. I got cingular which is okay.. seems like Verizon has the best service though.

  • i just upgrade from startac to sanyo last year.. had it not been for the battery drainage, i wouldn't have upgraded.

  • stay away from cingulair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are by far the worst for service.  If you do get cingulair you can expect to get drop calls.

  • oh.. suuuure.. and you never got all 29 of my calls last monday either, right?!!

  • Dude, long time no...props, so here goes, Verizon is the best for over all reception and service, you pay a little more, but you won't drop calls as much as ATT/Cingular (who is the only one using the razr), sprint sucks, and nextel is only good for the walkie talkie + it's expensive. So that being said...verizon, motorolla v710 what more needs to be said? I have the v710 it has mp3 play, camera/video capture. It's awsome oh and yeah you get text message, but who messages when you can call, kinda lame if you ask me and if you don't pick up that's what voicemail is for...people I don't know these days.

  • OH and btw...all this info about the services comes from my friend who owns a store that carries all the various carriers, he's unbiased and tells me like it is so, you go chose for yourself.

  • Go with SPRINT, you get $150 bucks off a phone after 18 months and they charge less for goin over minutes. They also good reception and good phones.

  • OMG ME TOO!!! pete sent me a txt msg and then asked me if i ever got it. and i was lke "HUH? my phone is like 4 yrs old and has a green backlight!!!! and forget about txt msging!!"

    im gonna get me a palm treo soon!!! i hear verizon is the best service.
